Explanation:

here's how you gonna do it

we will use simultaneous equations because there are 2 conditions about the same two numbers ..

X for 1st number ... Y for the 2nd

X + Y = 12 (1)

5X + 2Y = 30 (2)

we have to make one of the variables equalled either by multiplying x in (1) by 5 ..or Y by 2 ...lets do the 2nd option

2X + 2Y = 24 lets call it (1)*

5X + 2Y = 30 (2)

if both 2Y are positive or negative.. we'll use subtraction (if both 2Y were different one's positive and other’s negative we will use addition)

(2) - (1)*

3X = 6 then divide both sides by 3

X = 2

now lets find the other value using equation (1)

2 + Y = 12

then Y = 10
