Similarities

• Both the North and the South engaged in farming not just the South.

• In the North, the wages received by workers were small and this was the case in the South as well.
• Technology led to the growth of both economies. In the North, technology led to industry and in the South, it led to better farming techniques for cash crops.
• Both of their populations grew rapidly.

Differences

• The North was primarily based on industry while the South was based on farming.
• The North had canals for transportation which was not very present in the South.
• The North had more educated people than the South as more children went to school.
• The North had a significant urban population while Southerners mostly stayed on farms and in rural areas.
• Population of the North grew much more rapidly than the South due to the presence of industry that attracted laborers.
