The original area is:
+8.5%2A11+=+93.5+ in2
There are 4 corners, so
+4%2A2+=+8+ in2 total removed
+93.5+-+8+=+85.5+
The new area is 85.5 in2

Given Information :

  • Dimensions of the sheet = 8.5 in x 11 in
  • 2 in
\sf ^2 has been cut from each corner of the sheet.

To calculate :

  • Area of the sheet.

Calculation :

Area of the sheet when 2 in
\sf ^2 hasn't been cut from each corner of the sheet
:-

→ Area = Length × Breadth

→ Area = ( 8.5 × 11 ) in
\sf ^2

→ Area = 93.5 in
\sf ^2

Area of the part cut from it :

  • 2 in
\sf ^2 has been cut from each corner of the sheet.
    [ A sheet has 4 corners. ]

→ ( 4 × 2 ) in
\sf ^2

→ 8 in
\sf ^2

Remaining area :

→ Remaining area = 93.5 in
\sf ^2 - 8 in
\sf ^2

→ Remaining area = 85.5 in
\sf ^2

Therefore,

  • The area of the sheet of paper will be 85.5 in
    \sf ^2
