Answer:

Cost 64951.91

Explanation:

We are to assume that the new road and Lincoln Lane meat at right angles. If that is true we can use the Pythagorean Theorem.

Givens

a = 1.5 miles

b = ?

c = 3 miles

Cost per mile = 25000

Solution

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

1.5^2 + b^2 = 3^2

2.25 + b^2 = 9

b^2 = 9 - 2.25

b^2 = 6.75

sqrt(b^2) = sqrt(6.75)

b = 2.5981

Cost

1 mile costs 25000

2.5981 costs x

1/2.5981 = 25000 / x Cross Multiply

x = 2.5981 * 25000

x = 64951.91
