The equation is x^2+12x+22=0
It needs to be solved by completing the square.

x² + 12x + 22 = 0 ( subtract 22 from both sides )

x² + 12x = - 22

To complete the square

add ( half the coefficient of the x- term )² to both sides

x² + 2(6)x + 36 = - 22 + 36

(x + 6)² = 14 ( take square root of both sides )

x + 6 = ±
√(14) ( subtract 6 from both sides )

x = - 6 ±
√(14)

Then

x = - 6 +
√(14) ≈ - 2.26 ( to the nearest hundredth )

x = - 6 -
√(14) ≈ - 9.74 ( to the nearest hundredth )
