After the party, there was 2/3 of a tray of cookies left. The next day Jesse divided the tray of cookies evenly between him and his 3 friends. What fraction of the tray of cookies did each person get?

Solution:

Note that:

  • After party = 2/3 tray of cookies
  • 1 friend = 2/3 ÷ 3

Simplify the equation to find out how much cookies did each friend get.

  • 1 friend = 2/3 ÷ 3
  • => 1 friend = 2/3 x 1/3
  • => 1 friend = 2/9

One friend got 2/9 of tray of cookies.
