Triangle DEF has vertices D(4,8), E(12,16), and F(-4,-12). The triangle is dilated with a scale factor of ¼ . What are the coordinates of D’E’F’?

Dilation factor=1/4

  • Total increase in coordinates=1/4=0.25=0.25

Now multiply each coordinates with 1.25

D=(4,8)

  • D'=4(0.25),8(0.25)=(1,2)

E=(12,16)

  • E'=12(0.25),16(0.25)=(3,4)

F(-4,-12)

  • F'=-4(0.25),-12(0.25)={-1,-3)
