If they have good reason for it (Like, the significant other is a points a dangerous thing (a gone if you know what I mean) and fatally hurts someone, hangs out with the wrong crowd if you know what i mean..., etc.) Then the significant other should listen. if the significant other actually is a good person and the parents dislike him/her/them/ because they're poor or because of a weird reason (ex. missed one day of school because they were sick) then the son/daughter/other should be with the one they love! <3
