James has collected 3985 stamps so far. He had 787 stamps from countries other than the United States. What percent of the stamps are from countries other than the United States?

Answer:

divide 787 by 3985 then multiply that by 100

if it were 100 stamps total and 50 from non US countries, you could pretty easily tell it was half, or 50% to ge that you need to divide the number in question by the total so 50/100. which gets .5. to get the percent you multiply it by 100

so given the numbers we divide 787 by 3985 then multiply that by 100
