Oil and water do not mix together. Oil floats on the water's surface. Why is this so?

Answer:

Water is denser than water

Step-by-step explanation:

All liquids have different densities and can be separated based on the different densities. If you put vinegar and water together, you can mix them- but if you let it sit it will eventually separate again. The same goes with oil. Its density is different from water.

oil floats on the water’s surface due to the oil being less dense than the water it was spilled into.
