Solution:

Note that:

  • 1 pair of mittens = $3
  • Kendra = $50

We already know:

  • The closest number to 50 and is divisible by 3 is 48.

=> x pair of mittens = $3x = 48

=> $3x = 48

=> x = 48/3

=> x = 16

Kendra can buy 16 mittens.
