Answer: 1 The purpose of government is, at the end, stability. Forms of government come and go, with various experiments through history proving more or less bloody or successful. More purely, Machiavelli would define a good government as one that was effective, and responsive to the antagonistic demands of the time.

2.According to Machiavelli a ruler should have three ends namely to gain power,to retain power and to extend power.In order to achieve these ends,a ruler can do everything. Machiavelli wisely borrows an image from medieval animal fables and says that the ruler must be able to imitate both the lion and the fox.Feb 28, 2009
