A circle is drawn within a square as shown. What is the best approximation for the area of the shaded region? Use 3.14 to approximate pi. There is a shaded square with a circle inside it and there is a 28 in. Mark on the side of the square.

Hence the area of the square is

Area= 28^2

The radius = 14 in

Area of circle= πr^2

Area= 615.832 square inches

Therefore the area of the shaded region is

= Area of Square - Area of Circle

= 784-615.832
