If the points are collinear ( lie on the same line ) then the slopes between adjacent points will be equal.

Calculate the slope m using the slope formula

m =
(y_(2)-y_(1) )/(x_(2)-x_(1) )

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (2, 3) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (4, 7)

m =
(7-3)/(4-2) =
(4)/(2) = 2

Repeat with (x₁, y₁ ) = (4, 7) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (8, 11)

m =
(11-7)/(8-4) =
(4)/(4) = 1

Since the slopes are not equal then the points are not collinear
