A cylinder has a volume of 51
m^3. What is the volume of a cone with the same diameter and height as the cylinder?

The formula fir the volume of a cylinder is pi(r^2)(h) where r is the radius and h is the height.

The formula for the volume of a cone is pi(r^2)(h/3)

If the diameters are the same, then the radius’s are the same because radius is half the diameter. The heights are also the same.

In the volume formula for a cylinder, you multiply everything together.

In the volume for a cone, you multiply everything together, then divide that number by 3. The number before being divided by three is the same number as the volume of a cylinder. This means that to find the volume of the cone with the same height and diameter of the cylinder, you just need to divide the cylinders volume by 3.

51/3 = 17, so the volume of the cone is 17
