if a rectangle is twice as long as it is wide and has a perimeter of 54 meters, what is the area of the rectangle?

Answer:

l = 2w (length is twice the width)

P = 2l + 2w

54 = 2l + 2w (but we know l equals 2w so we can replace l with 2w)

54 =2(2w) + 2w

54 = 6w

w = 9

l =2(9) (l = 2w

l=18

A = lw
