And 2 + 3/4 is 2 3/4 which is the amount of flour that is needed.

OR

You could use 3 3/4's of a cup and 2 1/4's of a cup.

3/4 + 1/4=4/4

3/4+1/4=4/4

4/4 + 4/4 is the same thing as 1+1 which is 2, so that covers the 2 cups of the flour that is needed, and then you add another 3/4, now you have

2 3/4, which is the amount of flour needed.
