Answer:

Addition and subtraction are easier than other operations like multiplication, division, square roots and to the power of.

Multiplication builds on the idea of addition, and to the power of builds on multiplication.

For example: 2+2+2=6. This is very simple, if you have 2 apples, and you get 2 more apples, and then you get 2 more apples, you add them together and you get 6 apples. Multiplication is a faster way to do this but it is more complicated. If you have 3 groups of apples, and each group has 2 apples in it, you multiply them together to get 6 apples. The reason this is faster is that instead of individually adding all the numbers together, you count the number of groups there are and multiply because you know that each group has 2 apples in it. Addition is a simple concept to understand, if you have two apples, than you add two apples more, you get 4 apples. very simple. the idea of subtraction works on a similar idea, if you have 4 apples, and you eat two, then you have 2 apples left.

If you are adding

3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3

then its very simple, right? You take 3 apples, you add 3 more apples, and you add 3 more apples...

Its very simple, but the problem is it would take forever, so you multiply instead.

How many groups do you have?

We count them all and find there are 14 groups.

14x?

What are we multiplying?

3

so 14x3=42

but we couldn't do this without simple addition because we had to add the number of groups there are.

I hope this helps!
