Explanation:

If you know your multiplication tables, you will know that 8·3 = 24. In reverse, that is 24 / 8 = 3. If you move the decimal point—the dot used for decimals always behind the last digit of a whole number—to the left or right, the answer will stay the same. This is why:

8 · 3 = 24, 80 · 3 = 240, 800 · 3 = 2,400, and so on.

Applying this but the decimal moving to the left results in:

0.8 · 3 = 2.4
