A bag contains 6 red tiles, 8 blue tiles, and 6 green tiles. A tile is drawn , the color recorded, and then the tile placed back in the bag before a tile is drawn again. If this procedure is done 30 times, how many red tiles would you expect to draw?

Answer:

18 tiles

Explanation:

There are 20 tiles in total. Red is 6 of the 20, or 6/20. That is 3/10 or 30%

Each draw has a 30% chance of being red. 30% or 20 tiles is 1.8 tiles. Over 30 draws, that would mean a total of 600 tiles are drawn, The overall chance of red is still 30%, so after 30 draws, the number of red tiles would be predicted to be 30% of 600:

(0.30)*(600) = 18 tiles will be red.
