u need to get common denominators the way to do so is multiplying 6 by 3 which gets you 18 but what u do to the bottom you do to the top 1 times 3 is 3 which lands you 3/18 plus 5/18 and when you add them you get 8/18 and you just want to convert to the lowest denominator possible 8/2=4 18/2=9 which gets you your answer 4/9
