A number that is increased by 50% and then decreased by 50% is called sequential percentage calculation or successive percentage calculation.

50 percent minus 50 percent is 0 percent, but you cannot simply take 0 percent of a number to get the correct answer when you want to increase a number by 50 percent and then decrease the result by 50 percent.
