Cholesterol determines the membrane fluidity. At high temperatures, cholesterol stabilises the cell membrane and increases its melting point. On the other hand, at low temperatures, it inserts into phospholipids and prevents them from interfering with one another.

Your body needs cholesterol to perform important jobs, such as making hormones and building cells.
