Frederick Douglass thinks that the 4th of July is a sham. He condemns America for being untrue to its founding principles, its past, and its present. The audience must fulfill what the founders of the country advocated. He says in his speech “This Fourth of July is yours, not mine, You may rejoice, I must mourn”.
