A bookstore had 75 copies of a magazine. Yesterday, it sold 1/3 of them. Today, it sold 1/5 of what remained. How many copies does the bookstore have left?

Answer:

4.5 or 5 if your rounding (because how can a store have .5 of a book??)

Explanation:

1/3 as a percent is 33.33

you move the decimal over to the left 2 times and are left with 0.3333

you multiply 75(0.3)

you get 22.5

1/5 as a percent is 20 percent and that multiplier is 0.20(0.2)

you do 22.5(0.2)

you get 4.5

Answer:

40 copies

Explanation:

75/3 = 25

75-25 = 50

50/5 = 10

50-10 = 40
