Bread does have a special meaning to it. Many traditions and cultures depict bread to be a gift from God and a sign of sharing with others. When Jesus had to feed the multitude, he multiplied the food he had (bread and fish) to feed 500+ people. Bread symbolizes sharing and a gift.
