Let's use the variable x to represent the width of the yard.

If the length is 5 yards less than quadruple the width, the length is represented by 4x - 5.

Then, if the perimeter is 550 yards, we have:

\begin{gathered} P=2w+2l \\ P=2x+2\cdot(4x-5) \\ 550=2x+8x-10 \\ 10x-10=550 \\ 10x=560 \\ x=(560)/(10) \\ x=56 \\ \\ 4x-5=4\cdot56-5=224-5=219 \end{gathered}

So the width is 56 yards and the length is 219 yards.
