-2x + 7y = -5 --------------------------(1)

-2x - 4y = 6 ------------------------------(2)

subtract equation (2) from equation (1)

11y = -11

Divide both-side of the equation by 11

y = -1

substitute y=-1 into equation(1) and then solve for x

-2x + 7(-1) = -5

-2x - 7 = -5

add 7 to both-side of the equation

-2x = -5+7

-2x = 2

Divide both-side of the equation by -2

x= -1
