y=-0.9x+79.71

We will find the value of (y) from the table and by the equation for the given values of (x)

First, when x = 34.9°

Observed heating monthly cost (from the table) = 67

Predicted heating monthly cost (from the equation) =


-0.9(34.9)+79.71=48.3

Residual = 67 - 48.3 = 18.7

Second, when x = 44.7°

Observed heating monthly cost (from the table) = 56.50

Predicted heating monthly cost (from the equation) =


-0.9(44.7)+79.71=39.48
