Explanation:

The easiest way is to eliminate y by multiplying equation (2) by -2 and adding to equation (1)

(1) 7x + 2y = 24 (2) 4x + y = 15

- 8x - 2y = -30 -8x - 2y = -30

-x = - 6

x = 6 4(6) + y = 15

24 + y = 15

y = - 9
