In response to rising concerns about identity theft the number of models of paper shredders a company manufactures increased approximately steadily from 5 models in 1998 to 34 models in 2005. find the average rate of change of the number of shredder models manufactured per year between 1998 and 2005.

What we have to do here is to find the difference between the year numbers and the number of shredder models in these years (the difference). Then we divide the difference in number by the difference in the year

Mathematically, we have this as;


(34-5)/(2005-1998)=(29)/(7)=4.14

Approximately, the average rate of change is 4 shredder models per year
