The given information is:

- A washer and a dryer cost $731 combined.

- The washer costs $81 more than the dryer.

We need to find the cost of the dryer.

We can call the cost of the washer x and the cost of the dryer y, then:

x+y=731\text{ Equation 1}

And also:

x=81+y\text{ Equation 2}

Replace equation 2 into equation 1 and solve for y:

\begin{gathered} (81+y)+y=731 \\ 81+2y=731 \\ 2y=731-81 \\ 2y=650 \\ y=(650)/(2) \\ y=325 \end{gathered}

As we said y is the cost of the dryer, then the dryer costs $325.
