We have that the distance traveled by the football ball is the hypotenuse of a right triangle whose other legs are 25 yards (40 yard line - 15 yard line) and 35 (45 yard line - 10 yard line), so the distance ir traveled was:

\begin{gathered} h=\text{ }√(25^2+35^2)\text{ } \\ h\text{ = }√(625+1225) \\ h\text{ = }√(1850)\text{ = 43.01} \end{gathered}

Which means he traveled around 43 yards
