The rational function is

(2x+2)/(x^2-1)

For calculate vertical asymptote we need to find which value of x make zero the denominator

\begin{gathered} x^2-1=0 \\ (x+1)(x-1)=0 \\ x=1 \\ x=-1 \end{gathered}

And for the numerator

\begin{gathered} 2x+2 \\ 2(x+1) \\ \end{gathered}

The whole expression

\begin{gathered} (2(x+1))/((x+1)(x-1)) \\ (2)/((x-1)) \end{gathered}

In this case, the vertical asymptote is at -1
