You have a roll of 100 feet of tubing and you need to cut 8 ½ foot lengths for IV pumps. How many 8 ½ foot lengths will you get? Will there be any tubing left over? If so, how much?

Answer: 11, 6.5 ft

Explanation:

Given

The length of the roll is
100\ ft

The length required for a pump is
8\ (1)/(2)\ ft=(17)/(2)\ ft

No of pumps(n) we get

\Rightarrow (100)/((17)/(2))=11.76\ \approx 11

length for 11 pumps

\Rightarrow 11* (17)/(2)=93.5\ ft

The remaining length of the tube is

\Rightarrow 100-93.5=6.5\ ft
