Jamie runs 3 2/3 miles on Monday and 1 2/3 miles on Tuesday . Jamie says the total distance she runs is Monday and Tuesday is between 4 and 5 . Is she correct? Rewrite 3 2/3 as the fraction 11/3 and rewrite 1 2/3 as the fraction 5/3, the sum of this fractions is 16/3, so the total distance Jamie runs on Monday and Tuesday is between 5 and 6, and Jamie isn't correct.

3(2)/(3)\longrightarrow((3*3)+2)/(3)=(11)/(3)
1(2)/(3)\longrightarrow((3*1)+2)/(3)=(5)/(3)

now the sum

(11)/(3)+(5)/(3)=(16)/(3)
(16)/(3)\longrightarrow5(1)/(3)

blanks

1)11/3

2)5/3

3)16/3 or 5 1/3

4) 5

5) 6

6) wasnt
