If the girls make up 3/5 of the class, then girls are 60% of the class.

Then, we can use the formula for percents:


\text{Total}\cdot\frac{\text{percent}}{100}=\text{Equivalent number to the percent}

Substitute, percent and the equivalent number to the percent and we can solve for the variable ''Total'':


\begin{gathered} \text{Total}\cdot(60)/(100)=24 \\ \text{Total}=(24\cdot100)/(60) \\ \text{Total}=40 \end{gathered}

There are 40 students in the class.
