Chloe was preparing her wardrobe for the new

school year where she is required to wear
uniforms. She purchased a total of 10 items.
Chloe paid $15 for khakis, x, and $10 for each
polo, y, and spent $120 total. Write and graph a
system of linear equations for this situation to
determine the number of khakis and polos that
she purchased

Answer:

x + y = 10

15x + 10y = 120

Explanation:

The khakis and polos have to be added up to equal 10 like this: x + y = 10

Since it costs $15 for every khaki, multiply x by 15 like this: 15x

Since it cost $10 for every polo, multiply y by 10 like this: 10y

These all add up to $120, meaning we add up 15x and 10y to equal 120

15x + 10y = 120
