The slope of the line that passes through points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) is computed as follows:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

Replacing with the points (n,6) and (-4,9), and with m = -1/4, we get:

\begin{gathered} -(1)/(4)=(9-6)/(-4-n) \\ -(1)/(4)=(3)/(-4-n) \\ (-1)\cdot(-4-n)=3\cdot4 \\ (-1)\cdot(-4)+(-1)\cdot(-n)=12 \\ 4+n=12 \\ n=12-4 \\ n=8 \end{gathered}
