Both areas are rectangles.

The are of a rectangle can be calculated by multiplying its lngth by its width.

The grey area has dimensions of 6 inches by 5 inches, so its area is:


A_(grey)=(6in)*(5in)=30in^2

a. The grey area is 30 square inches.

The red area has dimensions of 6 inches by 4 inches, so its area is:


A_(red)=(6in)*(4in)=24in^2

b. The red area is 24 square inches.

The total area is just the sum of the grey and the red areas:


A_(total)=A_(grey)+A_(red)=(30in^2)+(24in^2)=54in^2

c. The total area is 54 square inches.
