Use the function z = a - 1 to find the value of z when a = 5.

we have the function

z=a-1

For a=5

substitute in the given function

\begin{gathered} z=(5)-1 \\ z=4 \end{gathered}

therefore

the answer is

the value of the function is 4

Part 2

use the function s=k+8 to find the value of s when k =4

we have

s=k+8

substitute the given values

\begin{gathered} s=(4)+8 \\ s=12 \end{gathered}
