How close does the lightning have to strike for you to hear it 2.5 s after it strikes? Round to two significant figures (two decimal places).

To solve this problem, we have to use the equation for constant movements.


d=v\cdot t

Where v = 0.388 km/s and t = 2.5 s.


\begin{gathered} d=0.388\operatorname{km}/s\cdot2.5s \\ d=0.97\operatorname{km} \end{gathered}

Therefore, the lightning has to strike 0.97 kilometers away in order to hear it after 2.5 seconds.
