\begin{gathered} \text{for UPS we have:} \\ 0.2(x-1)\text{ + 7} \\ \text{for FedEX:} \\ 0.3(x-1)+5 \\ to\text{ know when they offer the same price we need to solve the following equation} \\ 0.2(x-1)+7=0.3(x-1)+5\rightarrow \\ 7-5=0.3(x-1)-0.2(x-1) \\ 0.1(x-1)=2\rightarrow0.1x-0.1=2\rightarrow \\ 0.1x=2.1\rightarrow x=(2.1)/(0.1)=21\text{ pounds} \end{gathered}
