1) Let's write the Interval Notation for that:

Since it is x lesser than -1, then all the values on the Real set lesser than one are valid. Therefore:

S=(-∞, -1) Note the parentheses exclude -1 and it goes up to the negative inifinite

2) Graphing it:

Note that the open dot excludes the number -1 from that solution.
