Finding unkown measures

We know T is the midpoint between P and Q, then

PT = TQ

In order to find the measure of PQ we need to find x first.

Replacing both PT = 3x + 8 and TQ = 8x -7 equations on PT = TQ

PT = TQ

3x + 8 = 8x -7

Rearranging the equation:

3x + 8 = 8x -7

8 = 8x -7 - 3x

8 + 7 = 8x - 3x

15 = 5x

15/5 = x

3 = x

Now that we know x we can find PT

PT = 3x + 8

PT = 3 · 3 + 8

PT = 9 + 8

PT = 17

Answer: PT = 17
