Respiratory system functions:

1. Gas exchange- responsible for exchanging gases from the body and the atmosphere.

2. Assists in sound production- the vocal cords in the larynx assist with sound production.

3. Provides protection- protects our system from pollen, viruses, and bacteria.

4. Acid-base balance- regulates pH that exchanges carbon dioxide and oxygen from our lungs and blood in the air.

5. Olfactory- nose and nasal cavity participate in the olfactory senses.

6. Regulates blood volume and blood pressure- respiratory system contains an enzyme that helps regulate blood volume and blood pressure
