Solve the equation for all values of x by completing the square. x²-6x=40

Solution

For this case we have the following:


x^2-6x+((6)/(2))^2=40+((6)/(2))^2

And solving we got:


(x-3)^2=49

Then we can take square root and we got:


x-3=\pm7

Then the two solutions are:

x= 10

x= -4
