The dosage for a certain drug calls for 10 mg per kg per day and is divided into 4 doses (every 6 hours). If a person weighs 130 lb, how much of the drug should they get in each dose? Round to the nearest whole number.

Solution

Step 1

Convert pounds to kg

1lb = 0.454kg

\begin{gathered} 130\text{ lb = 130 }*0.454 \\ \\ =\text{ 58.967 kg} \end{gathered}

Step 2

\begin{gathered} Total\text{ drugs = 10mg }*58.967 \\ =\text{ 589.67 mg} \\ \\ Drug\text{ per dose = }(589.67)/(4)=\text{ 147 mg} \end{gathered}
