The solution to the system of equations is (-4.25, -0.5)

Here, we want to solve the system of equations.

8x + 16y = -42 ...........................(i)

-2x + 3y = 7 .............................(ii)

We can rewrite the equations as follows;

from (ii)

2x = 3y - 7 .........................(iii)

And also from (i)

4(2x) + 16y = -42 ...........................(iv)

We can insert (iii) into (iv)

4(3y-7) + 16y = -42

12y - 28 + 16y = -42

12y + 16y = -42 + 28

28y = -14

y = -14/28

y = -1/2 or -0.5

From iii

2x = 3y - 7

insert the vale of y here

2x = 3(-0.5) - 7

2x = -1.5-7

2x = -8.5

x = -8.5/2

x = -4.25
