A Web music store offers two versions of a popular song. The size of the standard Version is 2.7 megabytes (MB). The size of the high-quality version is 4.2 MB.Yesterday, the high-quality version was downloaded twice as often as the standard version. The total size downloaded for the two versions was 3219 MB. Howmany downloads of the standard version were there?

Let x be number of downloads of standard version and y be number of downloads of high quality versions.

The hight quality downloads are twice as the standar downloads. So,


y=2x

The downloaded data for x standard version is 2.7x and for y high quality version is 4.2y. The total downloaded data is 3219. So,


2.7x+4.2y=3219

Substitute 2x for y in the equation and solve the obtained equation for x.


\begin{gathered} 2.7x+4.2\cdot2x=3219 \\ 2.7x+8.4x=3219 \\ x=(3219)/(11.1) \\ =290 \end{gathered}

So value of x is 290. Thus downloads of the standard version were 290.

Answer: 290
